Wiess and LaViolette decided to per
form at Clackamas in January after
Weiss performed her Latin music
recital for her graduate degree in
music at the University of Portland.
The faculty recital was the first
this term in what Laviollete foresees
as an ongoing practice to showcase
the talents of Clackamas teachers
as an encouraging and educational
enhancement for students.
“It is a good tiring for students,
and encouraging for them to get to
see their teachers perform on a pro
fessional level,” she said. “It gives
them a chance to see what it is like to
perform on a professional level and
what they should aspire to.”
LaViolette also recognizes the
recitals as a cultural enhancement and
its growth as an exciting benefit to the
college and community.
“[Faculty performances] enhance
the community as well, through the
performance of music from different
cultures,” she said. “We are really
excited about that, so all in all it is a
realty good tiring.”
Musician, musician-scholars, and
music appreciators are all encouraged
to become a member of LAASA and
join in their efforts to promote Latin
music. For more information, visit
