But, seriously, “New York Minute” is like a totally huge step for the twins. Mary-Kate and Ashley have totally stepped out of their usual \ roles as two \ preppy hot chicks and a v e stretched them- selves to h e limit preppy hot chick and one rocker hot chick. It’s totally rad. “New York Minute” takes viewers on a fabulous trip through New York City. Preppy nerd Jane (Ashley Olsen) has to give a 3 p.m. speech in NYC which will decide if she gets a. full ride scholarship to Oxford University (rich girls have all the luck). Roxanne (Mary Kate Olsen), the rocker twin, wants desperately to make it to a Simple Plan video shoot (although suspiciously donning a Metallica quarter sleeve). Will they make it in time? Well, they would if not for truancy officer Max Lomax (Eugene Levy). There’s also Bennie Bang (Andy Richter), an average white guy who thinks he’s Asian, all the while caught between his Chinese adoptive mother and a music pirating scheme. What a stupid head. Max is determined to catch first-class truant Roxy in the action of cutting class, and Bennie swears to his mother that he will return a chip containing condensed files of unreleased albums. The catch? The hairless mutt of a dog, which belongs to the senator mom of Roxy’s love interest Trey Lipton (Jared Padalecki) has gone and swal lowed the chip (how unfortunate and entirely unexpected). But the movie, like, marked a milestone for the twins. They totally proved themselves to be totally awesome actresses. They send such a good message to girls: they can be a rocker chick or a preppy chick and still be totally fashionable. Just because Roxanne had knotty, ratty hair didn’t mean she’s dirty, just that she’s cool. And even though Jane had ambitions, like, £>o FUN! that doesn’t mean that she can’t look hot in the meanwhih “New York Minute” has totally good message. Perhaps the cleverest part of the entire film J was a cameo by Bob Saget as he curiously 4 stares at the twins as if he’s seen them before. In the end, Roxy lands Trey and Jane falls for bike messen ger Jim (Riley Smith and everything Bennie and Bang (Alannah Ong) go t jail for pirat ing music, Max is promoted from piglet to : pig, Jane gets her scholar ship and the twins discover that, despite their dif- j ferences, I they real- | ly do love ’ each; other. Then, with an almost sexual hug to confirm the twins’ emotional I growth, the ’ movie ends. Sniff—that was, totally greatest. i I 1 IF OLSEN . ;e ter totally fabulous trip* tkr*<>uç/k tüe Itveô of tire O£ôen Maty-Kate and Ashley become the world’s youngest producers with the creation of Dualstar Entertainment. are born .3.
