Page Four THE AMPLIFIER Friday, May 6, 1949 SWIMMERS QUALIFY FOR LIFEGUARDS For the purpose of training life guards to assist in swimming classes within the school and recreational parks during the summer, a lifesaving class of 16 senior life guards and nine jun ior life guards has recently com pleted its activities. The class, directed by Miss Marion Locher, girls’ physical education instruc tor, consisted of a 12 weeks’ pe riod in which each girl swam an hour daily. Following this was a swimming test and a written ex amination. Those girls that qualified for senior awards were Janice Otnes, Margaret Illingworth. Pat Deam- er, Hazel Koser, Diane Spencer, Doris Corderman, Jean Fallon, Virginia Rabick, Sela Clark, Peg gy Lander, Lois Pickle, Jackie Headrick, Jane Culver, Katherine Ness, Joyce Patterson, and Carol West Linn's Red Cross life saving class has qualified 25 members for lifeguards. Ditter came up with the bases loaded and retired the next three batters; he also made one hit and scored runs. ♦ ♦ ♦ The West Linn netters were defeated by McMinnville, 3-5, in a tennis battle staged in the Mac Hi courts, Wednesday after noon. Palmer lost to a very strong opponent after two grueling sets; Penny lost to his opponent but played three sets in doing it. Sharp won his first two sets and,, both double teams won — David Lenz-Lester Louden, and Ken Palmer-Larry Schwartz. The girls lost the matches they played. * * * Sub-catcher Harold Adrian lost his chance to finish the season when he broke a finger on his right hand.
