Meghan Andersch / The Baker County Press Carmelita Holland / The Baker County Press A good-sized crowd gathered at 11 a.m., May 25th, to enjoy an outstanding Memorial Day service at the Eagle Valley Cemetery, led by Commander John Duggan, of the Halfway VFW Post 7847. “Taps” was played by Pastor Ron Hunter of New Bridge. The fl ag presented to the family of William “Bill” Holcomb by the military earlier, was donated by Bill’s family to the VFW, in honor of Bill and his brother, John Holcomb, to raise at this service, and future Memorial Day services, as well as on other special occasions. (Commander Duggan holds notes in the photo.) The VFW held services at Halfway at noon. “Live dangerously,” he joked. She had no idea how serious the danger would become. Here the Number 19 Mikado locomotive steams across Highway 7. The Heisler No. 3 wood-burning locomotive, which celebrates its centennial this year, is still undergoing repairs, but has its federal inspection in early June, with reassembly anticipated a month after that.
