A good-sized crowd gathered at 11 a.m., May 25th, to enjoy an outstanding Memorial Day service at the
Eagle Valley Cemetery, led by Commander John Duggan, of the Halfway VFW Post 7847. “Taps” was
played by Pastor Ron Hunter of New Bridge. The fl ag presented to the family of William “Bill” Holcomb by
the military earlier, was donated by Bill’s family to the VFW, in honor of Bill and his brother, John Holcomb,
to raise at this service, and future Memorial Day services, as well as on other
special occasions. (Commander Duggan holds notes in the photo.) The VFW
held services at Halfway at noon.
“Live dangerously,” he joked. She had no idea how
serious the danger would become.
Th e dilapidated motel and gas station next to the Snake River look
like the set for a zombie movie—and Hailey Burke has just inherited the
whole mess aft er fi nishing college. Now, armed with a business degree,
a crowbar, and a few cans of paint, Hailey is setting out to make a calm,
practical living for herself. Until a man she knew for one day, and lost oh-
so-many years ago steps through the door.
FBI agent Jacob Hayden Robie is on a search for a terrorist hideout
somewhere between Salisbury Junction and the Snake River in
northeastern Oregon. Th e old motel by the freeway is his best bet for
a distraction-free central location, even if its owner is the one who got
away. Someone around her, though, is the man or woman he’s hunting. To
fl ush out the enemy, he’ll have to hide his real identity—and his feelings
for Hailey—even if it means she’ll never trust him again.
