To include something you’ve seen or experienced, email News@The- BakerCountyPress. com with “Random Acts of Kindness” in the subject line. We’ll be sure to include your story. • So in honor of Na- tional Police Week I thought I would share a little story. Last week a man crashed his vehicle on I-84. My husband covered the crash. The man was okay but his dog was hurt and had to go to the vet. He was not from Oregon and now had no vehicle. The crash had happened that morning. My husband and I had lunch together and were sitting in my offi ce, as he started to leave he saw this man walking down the sidewalk. He called him over and asked how he was. He said he was okay but his dog had to stay the night at the vet for observation. He asked to borrow a phone to call his mother since his phone was broken in the crash. He was sore, tired, The still shaken and looked a little lost. He was un- able to reach his mom but my husband got back on the phone and started making calls. He got a hold of the Community Connection offi ce and told them the guy’s story. They agreed to feed the man and put him up in a motel for the night since it would be at the least the next day before he could get his dog and someone could come and get him. So my husband gave him a ride across town to the Community Con- nection offi ce and they took it from there. It’s the little things that make the world a better place. This act of kindness meant the world to this man. Just because they wear a badge does not mean they stop having com- passion. I would say this is an act of going the extra mile. I know this is a small story and won’t make the news but it made me smile and I thought it was well worth sharing. • Just want to send a shout out to my awe- some brother. He stopped on the freeway to pull a woman and child out of the wreckage of a car, the car of which was already on fi re. Other people had already stopped and were taking pictures and video of the scene on their cell phones but made no ef- fort to help the woman (who was severely in- jured and unable to exit the vehicle) and child. My brother suffered minor, albeit painful, burns on his hands and ruined his Army issued cammies with blood and singeing while moving the injured woman to safety moments before the vehicle became fully engulfed in fl ame. I’m so proud to call this man and active duty soldier my brother. Many have tried, many have faltered but not my brother. He did the best he could when he had no obligation to do so. He stopped to help some- one he didn’t know, and who meant nothing to him personally, even though he was in a hurry to get home to his wife and children. • We were at the Sumpter Flea Market on Sunday at one of the picnic tables having vendor food when our pre-school-age daughter dropped her plastic fork on the dirty ground. We told her she couldn’t use it again. In about 10 seconds, an- other black plastic fork was right in front of her. At the other end of the fork was a young man with brown hair and a yellow City of Sumpter Staff T-shirt. He’d watched the incident and almost instantly helped. Made our day!
