Sh elter for battered lesb ian s funded T he Equity Foundation has granted Bradley- Angle House $6,606 to provide emergency shelter and related services to lesbians and their children escaping domestic violence. This project will provide 462 days and nights of emer gency shelter, peer counseling and advocacy services to lesbians and their children creating lives free from violence. Bradley-Angle House has the only domestic violence program in the state offering support groups for battered lesbians. Sixteen years ago Bradley-Angle House established the first do mestic violence shelter on the West Coast, and four years ago recognized the need to offer les bian-specific support groups. A ssault update A trial date has been set for PSU wrestler Clay Woodward. Woodward is charged with three counts of assault against Bruce Fuller and two others in a gay bar in downtown Portland. (See article Just Out April ‘91.) The trial date is May 21 at the courthouse just off of Pioneer Square. According to Fuller, W oodward’s attorney has hired a private detec tive who is questioning all of the witnesses to the early morning events of March 5. The detective Lesbian and G a y Prid e '9 1 T his year’s Lesbian and Gay Pride Celebra tion is on Sat. June 22, and will start at noon from the north park blocks. The fes tivities will not take place on Waterfront Park, instead the parade will march south on Broadway to Portland State University for the rally, which will begin around 1 p.m. Romanovsky and Phil lips are slated to perform at the rally. Adult m ovie arcad e bombed art’s Movie Arcade at 330 SW Third Ave nue was bombed soon after opening in April. Owners Lynn G illis and Dillard Hart said after the bombing, “Our arcade is de signed to please the gay community, [and] we think this is the reason we were assaulted.” They went on to say that they are taking step» to pre vent any future problem s, and to keep Hart Video Arcade open to the gay community. H Scholarships for lesb ian s and g ay men T he Audria M. Edwards Scholarship Fund offers one or more scholarships each year to assist gay and lesbian students or stu dents who are children of gay and lesbian parent(s). The fund, established by Edwards’ family, administered by her children, Lady Elaine Pea cock and Misty Waters, is available to members of the lesbian and gay community and their chil dren residing in the Portland, and Vancouver metropolitan area. Applicants must be pursuing their education through the secondary level and beyond and require financial assistance to that end. Queers descended onto Cohen’s PSU lecture where he spouted anti-lesbian and gay disinfor mation and called for gay de-programming. S en ate b ills O n M arch 28, RATS attended hearings of the State Health Insurance and Bio-Ethics C om m ittee in Salem , and lobbied state senators in support of Senate Bill (SB) 790 and against SB 29. SB 790 insures adequate health care for all Oregonians. SB 29 rations out health care based on a prioritized list. AIDS is near the bottom of that list, virtually eliminating any state funding for AIDS treatment. RATS contacted Gov.Barbara Roberts and 15 state senators (including members of the Health Insurance C om m ittee, the leadership of both parties, and all senators from the Portland area) to urge them to support SB 790 and reject SB 29. Call Senator Frank Roberts (378-8803)to encourage him in continuing his support of SB 790 and rejection of SB 29. RATS You too can be heterosexual O ur House pledg e d riv e O ur House o f Portland, a residential care facility for people with AIDS, launched its first ever pledge drive in April with the theme: “Pledge to Excellence in Care.” The fa cility opened in Feb. 1989 and has provided qual ity of living and professional care for 65 people with AIDS. n April 10, Radical Activist Truth Squad (RATS) joined forces with Queer Nation, the Lesbian Community Project, and the PSU Women’s Union to protest Moonie Richard Cohen in his rampage against gays and lesbians.
