Mining and Scientific Prtu Patent Agency, San Francisco: Steam Boiler. M. N. Lawfenberg, S. F. Dated, May 20th. Thi improvement in boiler, consist in a novel construction of the boiler and lire-box, and the parti relating thereto, eg that the inventorobtain more heating and tab surface, utilize a certain portion of the fire-box without decreasing its capacity, and prevent the clogging of the tubes, by inducing certain draft currents in the fire-box depending upon its iieculiar shape, the grate and draft opening. While the engine ia applicable to all kind of boilers and furnaces, it i especially applicable to those whero it is intended to use straw and ami other light fuel which tho draft has a tendency to carry into and againat the ends of the flue so a to clog them. The object de scribed the inventor accomplishes by extending the tubes into the upper part of the fire-box, and securing them into a tube sheet which de pend from the crown sheet, at a point between tho front and rear wall of the fire-box, laid tube sheet extending across the fire-box to M to be united with the aide wall, while the plate lienoath the tube i made in the form of an arch ao aa to concentrate and Intensify the llamu at that point , and alio for the purpose of preventing deposits beneath the tube. In com bination with this construction, Mr. Laufcnberg employs a peculiar partial grate, having a draft opening or space at the rear and a plate in front, extending a short distance back from the door so as to direct the current of air and assist the combustion.
