NUN AN - TAYLOR CO Jacksonville, Oregon Jacksonville Post OTFICIAL. PAPER OF THE CITY OF JACK SONVILLE. OREGON Published every Saturday by the Post Pub- ishing Co. J. B. Barnes, Editor Admitted as second-class matter at ‘Jacksonville, Oregon. SATURDAY, APRIL 17, 1909. SUBSCRIPTION Ono year, by mail................ 31.50. The Gold Hill News has again chang ed hands and now James D. Fay, for merly of Medford, is in charge of the helm. Medford's Magazine is a new crea tion in the journalistic field of Rogue River Valley. A. Brown, formerly ad vertising manager on the Mail is the proprietor and editor. The first num ber is neatly printed and profusely illustrated. Mr. Brown, in his bow, says that he will give the true unvar nished facts about the valley. The magazine is well supported by the business men of Medford who feel the need of a periodical of this character. Success to Mr. Brown and his new en terprise. men for the purpose of improving the towns, what is the reason that our town can not have one? It will cost nothing to meet once in two or four weeks and talk over the situation. While it might not do much to boom the town, yet we should get better acquainted with one another and with one another’s wants and wishes. A communit, of spirit creates an enthu siasm which is very apt to display it self in some direction The old say ing that everything comes to him who waits, may have been true in the old time, but under the spirit of the pre sent age if a person wants a thing he must go after it. We believe there is a go-ahead spirit enough in town to carry an improvement association through to good results if it were only started; and we also believe that after it was fairly started the good effects of it would be felt immediately. Per haps not as some cities have done in getting great branches of industry to settle here, hut in plans for beautify ing and improving what we have, and in being ready to embrace opportuni ties, if any should come. An associa tion of this kind, it seems to us would be pleasant and profitable, even if not much in the way of ‘‘boom" came from it. Will not some of the business men make a move in the matter? Some Good Advice Foolish spending is the father of __ poverty. Do not be ashamed of hard work. Work for the best salary or wages you can get, but work for half price rather than be idle. Be your own master, and do not let society or fashion swallow you individually -hat, coat and boots. Do not cat up or wear out all you can earn. Compel your selfish body to spare something for profits saved. Be stingy to your appe tites, but merciful to others’ necesi- tios. Help others, and ask no help for yourself. See (hat you are proud, too! Let that pride be of the right kind. Be too proud to be lazy; too proud to give up without conquering every dif ficulty; too proud to wear >i coat you cannot afford to buy; to proud to be in company that you cannot keep up with in expense; too proud to be stingy.
