T"ilng Hreakcr I'olnl Adjustment To determine whether to provide a greater or Ims separation of the breaker points may be decided hi the following manner: If the gap Is too great, the engine will mis.s at IiIkIi speeds. This Is due to the fact that the time is not sufficient to permit 1 he breaker points to come together properly and the coll therefore does not build up to its maximum strength. If the en gine mism-H at low speeds, the gap is too Miiall, the mitring being due lo Ihe fact that the distance be tween the points is so small that an arc may be formed between them. An interesting experiimnl in local tcansiortation is now under way in Ann Arbor. Mich., where the city's street rail way system has suspended oper ation indefinitely while motor coach service is being trb d out. 'The. outcome of this experiment is being closely watched by municipal and street railway officials in many citicu. Tlie situation in Ann Arbor was not unlike that existing 111 m-Jliy American cities today. The demand lor ' passenger transportation had outgrow n available facilities. After many conferences between munici pal and street railway officials of 'Ann Arbor, an agreement wos fi nally reached permitting tho street car company lo suspend its service iur an indefinite period. Fnder the provisions of the agreement between the city of Ann Arbor and the 1'eople's Motor Coach Co,, the city has the right to bar the coaches and order the street cars back at any time dur ing I he year. The motor coach company does not have the option of retiring Its coaches until the ex plrutlon of Its one year contract. At that time the coach company and the city authorities will sit down together and decide as to the future passenger transportation system for the city of Ann Arbor. Wince the voluntary retirement of the city's street cars. Ann Arbor is being served by It modern -3-pas senger Yellow Coaches. The couch es cover a very extensive territory and due to their flexibility have been able lo adopt routes that in pure t he greatest convenience for tlie people living in vorious parts of Ihe city. " Tho transportation situation In Ann Arbor is entirely In the hands of the people, who having had street cars, will be abb: to compare that form of service with that of modern motor coaches. Having made t he comparison, the peopl uilt be in a position to decide whether they prefer motor coaches to street cars. Kight cities in the Fnited States are, now depending on motor cociches alone for public transpor tation. These cities include Km poria, Kans.; Middh-ton. S. Tho most delicate and tho most expensive part of the automobile la of course the engine, yet as it is hidden from your eyes aa you drive, anything can happen to it internal work ings, unless a certain amount of precaution In taken. How ninny motorists know that there are six teen wuyn or causes of overheating an engine? Kt forth briefly they are. Itadiator leaks, broken water pumps, rotting of tho rubber hose connections, choked water pass ages, cylinder friction, loose oil pipe connections, clogged strainers, broken oil pumps, worn pLston rings, driving with retarded .spark, imnrooer tiBiinr. ininroner carbu retor adjustment, broken fan belt . and clogged mufflers ure some of the more important reasons for a heated motor, and must bo care fully guarded against. 1 Inasmuch as the engine Is cov ered with a vault-like it eel cov ering, it was found to be impos sible for the motorist to ascertain when engine trouble was imminent, on account of an overheated condi tion, until Hie damace was done. This accounts for the presence of the heat indicator on the radiator cap of most automobiles, and it has been proven many times, that if the driver will keep a casual eye on this instrument his motor troubles will ydLsapppar. for the heat Indicator Is a mire prognostic cator of trouble.
