Close Watch on Motor TliofK There remains the enterprising automobile thief, involving means of circumvent lug his activities. I'here are hundreds of locks on the market; some good nnd many jiot so good. The kiboratorles ha VP means of testing the effectiveness of a lock both In Its mechanical construction nnd in Its security from unauthorized tampering. Any lock may be picked In time, but u look that will withstand the atten tion of a talented burglar for twen ty minutes is recognized as good enough for the ordinary purpose. An interesting case occurred at the laboratories recently when on inventor drove up in a car equipped with a locking device of his own invention, for which he claimed un usual features. While he was de scribing the excellence of Ills lock to the head of the casualty depart ment one of tlie hitter's assistants went down stairs and stole the car. The inventor was fiimlly persuaded that his lock was not so good as he thought it was, but the exper ience of the engineers In charge cf these tests enabh-d him to perfect his device. Another safeguarding device against theft is a system of Iden tification figures designed to be lorge-proof. These figures are made in various ways, but the. 'basic idea Is that they cannot bn altered without, leaving traces which ure really discovered. These ani some of the ways In which automobile manufacturers H'M'k to safeguard the motoring public. ltd Ineinentn In safety de vices are d vt loped nearly every day and the laboratories are kept busy d'-signing testing machines, apparat us and methods to keep pace with the growing demands. Their lists of accepted safety de vices and of standard apparatus and materials are furnished free to the public nnd may be had from any of tlndr agencies, of which th'-re are H- in ns many cities throughout Uhj I'niled Htates und Canada. FENDERS BUILT II IN QUANTITIES Providing fenfl(r for as Inntc n number of cars and trucks ns are daily produced by tho Ford Motor company is In Itself quite a manu facturing accomplishment and the way the compuny producer them Is interesting becauso It Is done on such an enormous scale. Hut fenders for new cars isn't all. Jt must bo remembered that there ure several millions of Ford cars operating on the streets und highways of this country alone und thtft quite a number of fenders are bent out of usefulness in traffic bumps every day. Therefore it Is necessary to keep service slocks up everywhere so replacements mny be quickly made. In this connection It Is Interesting that there is a, slightly greater demand for new left-hand lenders than for those for the right fdde of the car. To care for new car and service stock requirements the fender de partment of the Ford Motor com pany's Highland Park plant, De troit, where nil fenders are manu factured, turns, out. 35.000 a day. hnd In doing ho uses approximately o tons of steel. ATTENTION FORD OWNERS BKIBi3IBIISBISEESBEaBBZaiBEBIMriBBBB18EHIIBEBEaEaESEESS53BBIl . It has come to our attention that the Ford owners in this territory are being circularized by a concern offering fractional shares in the stock of the Ford Motor Company of j Canada. ' On advice from the Ford Motor Co. we do most emphatically recommend against the purchase of these fractional shares for the reason that the price quoted is proportion ally in excess of the market value of full shares and in addition as this company does not issue its stock in any denominations less , than one full share, there is no provision for representation of these fractional shares in any general shareholder's meeting of the Ford Motor Co.
