What does history eaking Of i axes Taxes of all kinds have come in for pretty thorough consideration this year. We are beginning to realize more clearly how much taxation has .added to the cost of living and doing business. Yet it is surprising how few people know that Eastern Oregon elec tric power, too, is taxed at the source of production. , Out of every dollar that the Eastern Oregon Light and Power Company re ceives for the power it sells, 11 cents go to' pay taxes. This operating ex , pense is necessarily a part of the cost of production. In other word?, it takes one-ninth of the money the East ern Oregon Light and Power company receives from its customers for elec tric service, to pay its taxes. ; Despite this fact there has leen no increase in the price of electricity in the past five years during which time taxes have gone, skyward.
