Luko 10:27, 28. ' Little Ground Lost State House, Salem. (By Mail). Thus far Governor Tierce and his prohibition head, George Li. Cleaver, do not ' seem to be- losing .much ground before the alcoholic com mittee. It is our opinion that as far as the investigation has been carried sentiment is rather switching to Mr. Cleaver. One thing is as sure as the rains of the Willamette, 'the state senate of Oregon as a body is going to render a decision in favor of Cleaver and the governor if they are entitled to that decision. Should the investigating commit tee find nothing wrong with the department there will be enough members of the senate say so to make it positive and well understood. We do not believe there is. any disposition to make of this committee a prosecuting committee as has been charged. I I Of all the propaganda ever floated through a legislative lxidy the child labor amendment advocates have the record.) ,'Not a day passes but several new pieces of literature are i deposited on the desk of each member, supporting the amendment. J Just , when the bust-up will come in this session, or whether there will be a bust-up at all is now a question I for debate. No legislation of great importance has thus jfar been offered. Changes in a few new ones of minor importance takes the time of the two houses wln-u in session. Pome scent the big game this ' session as irrigation, for it is well known that the bond jj holders or those who sold the bonds on the different proj ects in Oregon are hern well represented by able talent. Flan after, plan is being considered, but as yet nothing has broke into the hopper on irrigation. Motor bus people know how to organize for a session and they have a lobby these days that makes the railroads look' tame. The bills already introduced are irksome to the bus people and with a big bus scheme brewing in Port land which promises to compete very heavily with street xar service yon can imagine just how interesting thin;:? get .when lobbyir.ls attempt to argue their' case in the corridors. j j ' Normal school talk hangs in festoons all over the state house. The attempt to help Monmouth school has opened the norni 'l school (iiest, iou as wide as it was in 1!U(I. It is now as plain as the snow on Ml, Emily that in older .to help Monmouth the legislature will have to install i school at Ashland and one east of the ('asecade mountains. This will require some real money and whether the move ment will get past the ways and means committee re mains to be seen. Asid- from the opinion of those win are selfish enough to want institutions located in their re spective towns the fact remains that Oregon is woefully weak on teachers' trainii.g and it must be strengthened even if we have ot bui'd two more schools to do it. Should such a bill pass in all probability the referendum will be tacked on it, but that may be all right, too, for have not the people of Oregon the pinlound right under our form of government to pass on all the work of a legislature, I it good or bad ?
