Mrs. Townley was a Union girl and will, bo iremembered by many as Miss Fanny Wright: Lucette Temple No. 14, Pythian Sis ters has received am invitation from Stinson Temple of Haines to put on the initia"tory work at that place next week. The members will go by auto returning the same evening. Mrs. John L. Jacobs and two daughters of Rexburg, Idaho, who have been visiting at the home of their son and brother have been camp ing at Wallowa Lake for the past few days. ' Mrs. Jacobs expects to stay several weeks. She has been enter tained much during her stay in the city. I Union, July 20'. The recent con vention of Pythian Sisters held here has aroused much interest along Pythian lines,' a goodly number of candidates being initiated lately. Among others on the. program were Grand Prelate Halgarth, of Elgin; Mrs. Edith Phy, Miss Eleanor Davis, Tony D. Smith and M. F. Davis, all of Union. Mrs. O. C. Butzien, who is recently out of the. hospital at Hot Lake, is rapidly regaining her strength. Mx3. Tripp is at Hot Lake where she was operated upon for appendi citis end is reported to be rapidly im proving. H. L. West, who was recently op erated on at Hot Lake, is also speed ily recovering and expects to be at homo at an early date. Elden, Sidney and Master Norman Cooper, of Weiser, have been visiting in the city, the former two leaving last evening and the latter will spend the summer here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Davis. Mrs. A. B. Davis returned recently from Rochester, Minn., much im proved in health. Miss Emma Snyder, of Aurora, Ore., and Mrs. Alice E. Gailey, of En terprise, were guests in the city the first part of the week. Miss Snyder is Grand Chief of the Pythian Sisters and Mrs. Gailey is Grand Junior of the same order. Fishing is in full swing up Cather ine Creek, there being trout and sal mon in abundance. Mr.?. James Webb returned yester day from Portland where she has been visiting for the past two weeks. James Webb is able tp be on duty once more at the C. R. of O. after having his foot badly smashed. Dr. Phy had charge of the case. The Levy swimming hole on Craig Mountain is accommodating large crowds during the hot weather. Earl Johnson is a visitor in Port land this week. . . flop - Professor and Mrs. Sydney Townley and children : arrived last evening ; Cove News Notes . Cove, July 19. (Special) The Corps of teachers for the Cove school for the coming year have been elected and are as follows: R. J. Allen, prin cipal; Mrs. J. H. Dunn and Miss Lucy Comstoek, first and second assistants respectively in the high school. Mrs. Dunn will also teach domestic science, J. H. Dunni, seventh! and eigth grades, also manual training; Miss Dena Lund, fifth and sixth grades; Miss Hattie DeBorde, part of third and all of fourth grades; Miss Houser, of Baker City, second and part of third grades. Suitable places will be arranged in which to teach the new branches which will 'be taken" up this year. Mr. and Mrs. Klmor r ulp made a short visit in Walla Walla Inst week. Mrs. Mae Kelly returned last week from Wapafo, Wash., where she has been visiting her daughter, Mrs, Claudie Shangle. Mr. and Mrs. Burdette, of North Powder, have been visiting friends and relatives in Cove the past week. Harry Weimcr is directing the chorus for the Cherry Fair which will be composed of only young people this year. Mr. Weimer expects to have about fifty voices in the chorus which will be one of the special features. Ray Comstoek and family are visit ing friends and relativc3 ncre. Mr. Comstoek has finished his summer fal lowing and is now taking a vncation. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Bell returned home Monday after several days visit in Walla Walla. M. L. Carter was a business caller in Cove Monday. v ' ' County Agriculturist Spillman was in Cove last week giving suggestions to the cherry growers in Tegard to the cherry slug which is puttinc; in full time both night and day on the cherry trees. ' Darn Peterman and party have re turned from a three weeks camping tour by auto through Utah. The Ladies' Aid society met this week with Mrs. C. C. Pratt at the parsonage. Tony D. Smith1, mayor of Union, and Martin Johnson, a produce man of Spokane, Wash., were in Cove on business last week. Fire troke out at the mouth of the Littlo Minam river on the Big Minam last week Thursday and W. D. Fore man, forester of that district, with a fire crew composed of men in and about Cove went immediately to look after it. Hugh McCall, Rube Daniels, Nip uonlcy and Bert Hamilton left here last Tuesday to motor to Portland and back. They returned the followfng Sunday but according to report the, trip was not exactly to their liking..
