Race (Question Keal X Cause of Misunder standing Between X Japan and America By VUcount KENTARO KANEKO, Japanese Statesman IT is true that the good feeling be tween the United States and Japan is losing strength and force. The race question is really at the bottom of it all. The Japanese-American problem is momen tous. On the sur face it is mere ly an economic pxobloiu, a labor problem, an im migration prob lem, but at the bottom it is a' raco problem. It all comes down to a question of two races that are so far apart in every way manners, thinkinar. livine that there is no common pivot, Japan and America have many things in common. .kngiiBn litera ture has been the source of great inspiration, and our art lias made Its influence felt in. the western world and may be destined to wield a still greater influence. Enterprise, Ore.. Jan. 22. The En- torpriso Record Chiftaii. says: Two Enteri.-i!!a lodges, t.he I. O. O. F. and the Knights of Pythias, are making plans to build homes for their, ' own use during the coming season. The Odd Fellows have contemplated such a move for a couple of years but did not make a start until recently when they bought of Mrs. Emily Wil son 42 feet of ground fronting on . Main street, at the southwest corner of West Third, or Depot street, pay ing $550. This lot lies immediately west of the corner owned by Daniel Boyd and formerly occupied by him' as a home. The plans as now in mind are to construct a building something after , the model of the Carnegie library, with a half basement for dining rooms and social purposes, and an upper floor for lodge hall, waiting rooms, etc., The building -would be exclusive ly for the use of the Odd Fellows, and no part would, be rented out to any other organization. As the lodge visnes to ereci me building as early as possible, it is probable it will be of frame construc tion. .1 K. KANEKO. Prefers Chamberlain's. 1 "In the course of a conversation with Chamberlain Medicine Co.'s rep resentative today, we had occasion to discuss in a general way the merits of their different preparations. At hi suggestion I take pleasure in express ing my estimation of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. I have a family of six children and have used tnis rem edy in my home for years. I consider it the only cough remedy on the mar ket, as I have tried nearly all Unas." Earl C. Ross, Publisher Hamilton County Republican-News, Syracuse, Kan. I 8ootoh Humor.
