BASKETBALL GAMES
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
The second series of .basketball
games in the Y. M. C. A. basketball
league will be played Wednesday
night in the Y. M. C. A. gymnasium.
The teams will lineup with their very
best men and the basketball fans will
be assured that the games will be fa.rt;
and exciting. The High School will
play the Meteors and the O-W. will
play the Comets. The games played
last Wednesday were ns fast as any
ever seen in the "Y" gymnasium and
the fact that a trophy will be awarded
the winner is putting every team on
edge to win.
To Hold Spelling Bees.
Vancouver, Wash., Jan. 22. (Spe
cial) Seventh and eighth grade stu
dents of the Vancouver schools today
began training for the elimination
contests in the statewide 'spelling
bee," which is to begin tho last week
of tho legislative session at Olympia.
Each county may send one contestant.
In the entries to dute the girls pre
dominate. First prize is a diamond
medal offered by J. W. Summers, of
Walla Walla.

the G. A. R. and W. R. C. A dinner
was served at which the Spanish War
veterans were invited guests. After
dinner the post installed the following
officers :

Mrs. Nelson read statistics concern
ing the boy soldiers in the Civil war,
the ages j-unning from 10 to 26 years
and over and gave her opinion as to
why there are so many Grand Army
men today. The Civil war was a
boy's war.
Mrs. Morgan presented the "boys"
with a flag and pole, the gift of Mr.
and Mrs. A. P. Nelson. In behalf of
the corps, Mr. Faulk presented Mrs.
Morgan with a gold post president pin
in appreciation of her loyal work in
toffice. Afterwards the corps installed
