SAHDRtDGE ARAL-BIG SURVEYED AT RAPID RATE By noon today, three miles of what is believed to be a permanent survey for the north ditch line that will Ir rigate the Sandridge country, -will be permanently run. At the board meet ing last evening, Engineer Darley re ported nearly three miles finished, and by noon today, that distance was reached. The principal item of in- erest in this 'connection is that the present steps indicate where ' the in take, for the north ditch will be Judg ing from the topography of the ground and the steps taken by the Engineer, the north side canal will start Just below the Oro Dell dam. At that point the canal will have sufficient height to get out on the Sandridge easily. The work of the surveying gang Is progressing rapidly and without' de lay of any kind., - - 4 So rapidly is the work being done on the canals and laterals ditches, that it has now become a very certain fact that the ditches wilall be dug during the coming fall and early win ter. and be entirely complete " when the dam is finished. Arnold, is a graduate from the La Grande high school, and was in the employ of the La Grande National bank for sometime. A. W. and F. E. Arnold are sons of W. D. Arnold, a well known and highly respected busi ness man, who was in the lumber business for many years in Union couaty, and who was county commis sioner for two consecutive terms. Somewhere in Hot . Springs today, safely a concealed from ..the sight of reporters and other curious persons, is a sacred cat. , To worship this siauc tlfled feline, hundreds of wealthy, so- bermlnded business men have travel ed, hundreds and even thousands of miles and are arriving in the famous Arkansas resort city today. The oc caslon of this - pilgrimage, .is the an nnftl concatenation of the National Order of Hoo Hoo, a fraternal organl zatlon.of lumbermen which has mem bers all over the United States, Can ada and Mexico. ' The real business of the concate nation will commence tomorrow, In accordance with the rule of the order making the ninth day . of the ninth month the date of meeting. The de ference to the number nine on the part of the members Is in regard fur the nine lives of the sacred cat. The fa6t that this year has two nines is considered especially auspicious. The first concatenation of the Hoo Hoo was held at Gurdon, Ark., not fa? from Hot Snrings. -One1 of the principal features ot the meeting will be a pilgrimage to, the birthplace of the order, where a memorial tablet will be dedicated to forever mark the spot. This tablet was designed and made by Juilus Zolnay, the celebrated sculptor, of St. Louis. ThiB trip is to be made on a special train an the afternoon of Thursday Another special feature is to be a general banquet, open to all members andjto the ladies accompanying them4 and to which a number of prominent citizens who are not members of the order will also be Invited.
