Xhe management of the First Eas tern Oregon District Agricultural society, wishes to announce that the county fair will be held this year at la Grande, beginning October 4th, and lasting one week. The new catalogue will be out now In a short time, the cause of the de lay so far has been due to the effort to get the Wallowa county people to Join us and combine the two fairs. The new catalogue will be practic ally the same as the old one, but with this exception, many of the premiums hare been raised and new features added, and also a large special list of premiums will be offered by the business men of La Grande. I did not beat the fellow. Oh no, I certainly skinned him. We shall be ready to start Sun day morning. We had to build roads and every thing else to get here. I had Just got my machine in repair when I stumped the fellow for a trade. Yours Resp., Robert Plant. From the other letter it seems that he is having Borne trouble with his new machine. Here la the letter: Echo, Oregou, Dear Sirs: We left Pendleton at 8 a. m. and arrived at Echo at 5:30. We had trouble with our machine on account of batteries. I consider that I made $500 in the trade. We broke a hanger on our engine, but we can fix It in the morning In a little while. We had some awful roads today, chuck holes and sand half way to the hub. C, and John F., had not seen each other for forty-years. The Forty-third an nual encampment of the Grand Army drew these four brothers together and on Monday they met in Salt Lake City. There were four men who embraced each other and clasped hands like they did in the loug ago. It was a happy reunion and they enjoyed the visit as did no others who were in attendance upon the encampment The four brothers were quartered in the Fremont school. There they bunked together like they did three score years ago, and they were happy -oh, so happy. . The two brothers who were In Salt Lake forty-two years ago have not been in Salt' Lake since then. The story follows: When the bombardment upon Fort Sumpter occurred, which Inaugurated the civil war, there lived in Marlon Lyon county, Iowa, the Chattin family There were four boys in. that family and they responded to the call ot the president and enlisted for service defend Old Glory and to perpetuate the union of states. They did not en list at the same time nor in the same regiment. Three of them were In the infantry and one of them in the naval service. They served through the war These four brothers are H. C. Chat tin, aged 16 jearB, who now resides in Missoula, Mont.; J. F. Chattln, aged 73, of Summervllle, Oregon, and C. F. 70, of Sommerville, Oregon and C. F. Chattin aged 61, of Elgin, Oregon. J. F. Was a member of Company A. Twentieth Iowa infantry: W. R. of Co. A. Sixth Iowa infantry; C. F. of Co. E, Forty-sixth Iowa Infantry and H. C. on the gunboat Benton, which was at tached to the lower Mississippi squadron. These four brothers, reraarKamy the war unscathed and during their service neither was ever ill. W. R., participated in twenty-seven engagements and his term ot service was four years. . , After the war, when they returned to their homes, they separated. Two of them, W. R., and C. F., started west for Oregon. This was in 1867. They drove overland and came via.. Salt Lake. Here they camped for several days, their camping place being emi grant corral. That was forty-two years ago. They continued their treek to the Northwest and both settled In Ore gon. H.
