Today is the 102nd anniversary of that memorable date, Monday, August 17, 1807,, when mocking cheers and cries of derision from the assembled nob rent the air as Robert Fulton boarded his first crude steamboat and set forth up the Hudson. The vessel was called the Clermont by its inven tor, but the people referred to It as "Fulton's folloy." Today the Inventor Is hailed as "the father of steamboat jng" and although the actual anniver sary of the momentous trip has passed almnnt unnoticed, next month will witness a great International celebra tion in honor of his memory. A replica of the little steamboat In .' which Fulton made his first trip has been completed and will be promi nently displayed during the Hudson Fulton relebrntton, which begins in New York on September 25 next. This replica is an exact reproduction of the original and is 150 feet long 18 feet wide, 7 feet deep and draws two feet of water. It will be equipped with a replica of the old engine, and will be seen on its trip up the Hudson to Al bany under its own steam. f Ml T r fill if i Iff Ml i III I i ie i II EXPOSITION JOTKS. SEATTLK.
