These three men, the government says, then caused deeds to be executed .o the Lumber company and the title is still held by them. The government Js now trying to cancel these titles, and In order to do so have to produce evidence of the alleged conspiracy, aud its that rea son why Scrlber, Thomson and Spen ser, must be brought into limeMght here, that these titles tan be cancell ed. It is not, of course, a civil proceed ings against these three men to punish them for conspiracy, but simply a matter of proving the conspiracy ex isted that the titles may be cancelled. Big Lawyers Coming. It is announced that one of the most prominent law firms on the coast ij going to defend these men. The firm is Dolph, Mallory, Simon and Gearin, the noted Portland counsellors. Gordon And Gibbons of Elgin in ha , Grande Today. Alec Gordon and J. L. Gibbons, of Elgin, arrived in La Grande this mor ning from Spokane, where they had been In the hospital suffering from in juries In the wreck between Spokane and Coeur d'Alenes. They are still pretty badly bruised up and will not be able to about their work for soma time yet. They stated that while they were in the hospital they were wcl! taken care of and that the Elks' lodgo at Spokane did some good work to the survivors of the wreck. Aug. 13.-(SpeciaI)-"l look for the most successful national championships we have ever held," said President J. E. Sullivan of the A. A. U. in speaking of the intersec tional championship track and field meet of the A. A. U. which will be held at the stadium of the Alaska-Yukon-Patilic exposition Friday and Saturday. "It will be a great battle1 of the west against the east. The party of athletes from New York and Chicago Is the largest that 'ever Journeyed to the coast, and It will give your men out here a great run. "A number of the eastern entries will be new to the western but when you see the men in action, you will realize that they are Just as good as some of the stars of whom you have heard for years. "The eastern athletes and those from the Olympic club of San Fran cisco, among whom is the famous Ralph Rose, are in the best of condi tion.
