Morris E. llouser, son of Elmer
Houser, manager of the Michigan
Christian Advocate of Detroit. Mich.,
arrived in La Grande this morning
from Seattle. He is representing his
father, who Is desirous of Investing
$20,000 In developing gome fruit land.
Mr. Houser was sent here by William
Hall who has charge of the Union
county exhibits at Seattle.
He has been to Hood river and Wil
lamette valley, but does not like that
He Is being shown the Cove district
today and later will be taken over
the rest of the valley. Mr. Houser
seems well pleased with what lie has
already seen of this county and o
doubt that he will Interest hia father
In this valley.

The City Council have purchased
land from A. E. Eaton for an estray
pound. This land is admirably situ
ated as it has plenty of shade and
runs right into Catherine creek so
the stock that happens to set Into
this undesirable place will have plen
ty of water and shade. Ibis is a step
in the right direction as the pound
that has been In use la too near the
railroad to be easily accessible to
stock that is "afraid of the cars."
Mr. J. M. Sutherland has been ap
pointed by the City Council as Pound
Master under the provisions of city
stock ordinance No. 101, and will have
charge of the Impounding of all stock.
We believe' that Mr. Sutherland will
not show any favortism, bo you had
best keep your cow within an enclos
ure, or you are liable to have an In
tervlew with Mr. Sutherland. Under J
the provisions of this ordinance every
one, whether an officer or not has
the right to take up any stock run
ning at large, or picketed or herded
on the streeted of the city and must
turn them over to the Poundmaster,
and he has exclusive jurisdiction as
to their care and disposition.
