That the demand for railroad em ployes created by the construction work on the rival lines being built up the Deschutes is being felt by the O. R. & N. is evidenced by the fact that it has been announced that the company is offering a bonus to the employes who remain m the Bervice of the company up to November 1. The bonus applies only to those eni plpyed in the track department, af fecting all section ana extra gang crews. The bonus consists of a cent and a half for each working hour for eich man between now and November 1, on condition that the man remains in the employ of the company until that date. This equals an advance in wages of 15 cents a day. It is thought that the company is taking this means of granting the men an increase in wages without seeming to have yielded to the de mand. At present the schedule of wages paid is as follows: Japs, $1.40; Greeks, Hungarians and Italians, $1.50, white men, $1.50. POKDAX TO KETIRX.
