It is a fine rainy evening. It rains quite often here and the rain is quite nice. We just keep going, really, we have had a lot of bright sunny weather. Everett Is a live town of about 30,000 or 35,000. It is largely supported by lumbering. There are 11 saw mills, 20 shingle mills, three sash and door factorels. a smelter which Is not busy just now and over r.o othpr In dustries. A recent report says the monthly payroll Is $:!4l.:!tli.00. We are soon to have two new roads, an iuterurhnn to Seattle and the t". P. The Great Northern is finishing a depot said to cost $75,000. A safe manufacturing company has secured a site and will employ. I believe, about 200 men. We have a brewery and 41 saloons with the consequent debauchery much in evidence. Everett has six large grade schools besides smaller ones. There are K grade teachers and about 2!HK pupils. The high school has 2:', teachers and 455 pupils. There are 50 tn the graduating class. Joe has delivered his "oration" tho I did not hear It. He expects his "sheepskin," at. the close of the year. Harold is pounding away in the elgth grade special. He takes manual training and has already brought home one piece of furniture. There are about ;() church buildings, most of them small and behind the times. The Haptlsts are preparing for a modern house. The Methodists, Presbyterian's and Congregationalisms have good sized buildings. I have met most of the preachers. On April 12 the Ev erett ministers invited the out of town preachers of the count' to a luncheon. A. has a building and some Hue workers and we have a Carnegie library with about S .('( vol umes. Mrs. King has a fine Philiethea class with about 20 enrolled and I have about the same number of Baracas. The .Junior C. E. has about 40 and the Y. P. C. fi- about 50 enrolled. The Juniors will soon be divided Into Juniors and Intermediates. There have been 45 added to the church since March. 1, including one not yet. baptised. Of these, It are beginners in the Christian life, while others have united by letter and state ment. We are raising money for mis sions and benevolent work and hope to accomplish much good in the work through the strength given of God. I have been wonderfully helped by the prayers of true believers in La Grande. God only knows the real value of such helpers. I rejoice that Brother Ellis is doing so well. So many have written us of his work. We miss the many dear friends both in and out or the Central Church of Christ, but it seems that It was the right time for us to move and Everett is surely a needy and a fruitful field for chrlstinn effort.
