Prauk and Earnest Miller, young
men from Cove, left this moaning for
Portland, where, it Is said, they will
engage in dancing on the vaudeville
stage.
William Smith arrived this morning
from Baker City and went on to Island
City. He is the Btep father of Marlon
Smith who was drowned at Island
City Saturday.
The Van Duyn Realty company yes
terday sent another large force of men
to Wallowa county where they will be
employed on the municipal enterprise
going ,on at Joseph in the way of
building ditches. , '
Mr. and Mrs. 0. H. Early and son
Lee, of North Platte, are. In the city
visiting at the home of Conductor and

morning from Portland where he has
been purchasing supplies and tomorow
will go to Enterprise where he is tit9
contractor for the construction of a
large building.

is doing business in Baker City, pub

Rev. James Henderson, Episcopal
missionary for Eastern Oregon, with
headquarters in La Grande, arrived
last evening from a trip into the Wal
lowa country. He says there was four

' North Powder this morning and spent
the day attending to some legal busi
ness. Mr. Dablstrom came to North
Powder a few years ago and worked
as a farm hand. Now he is rated as
one of the most prosperous farmers

was manager of the Pacific States
Telephone company of the city, who is
now traveling auditor of the company,
with headquarters' in Portland, parsed
through the city this morning en

ties of the season is in progress this
afternoon vat the home of Mr. and Mrs.
John Clarke on Adams avenue. Mea-'
dames John Clarke, J. E. Reynolds.
Ed Wright and Albert Hunter enter
tained it 500 ia honor of Mrs. J. M.
Berry. Sixty-eight invitations were
issued. The Clarke residence' waa
beautifully decorated in cut flowers. I
Luncheon was served.
Numerous ' friends of Mrs. 'Gilham
called this afternoon in an informal
way to bid her good bye before she
leaves for her future home in Wash
ington. The afternoon was given over
to visitation and informal conversa
tions. -
