At the annual meeting of the Algonquin club last night .new officers were elected and steps taken to get the courts In shape for speedy resumption of the summer sport. It Is planned to oil the courts if such a scheme Is a feasible one, and In several ways im prove the grounds. In any event, the courts will be ready for use at a near by date. , . -' ' There are a few vacancies In the list of memberships, and any one wishing to Join should apply to the membership committee, consisting of Misses Lulu Gulling, Floy Massee and Harvey Bay, The officers elected lust evening are, president," George T. Several committees are yet to be appointed, and as soon as the tournament committee is named, ar rangements for tournaments with other clubs of the county and eastern Oregon will be arranged, if possible. A home tournament will also be held later in the season. . ELKS ELECT. Ed Coolldgo is New Exalted Ruler ot Local Lodge of Elks. Ed Coolldge of the United State National bank, heads the Elks' lodge for the ensuing year, as the result of the annual election held last night. The balloting resulted In the follow lng selections: H. E. Coolldge, exalted ruler; Dr. G. L. Biggero, esteemed leading knight; A. B. Rogers, esteemed loyal knight; H. J. Rlttcr, esteemed lecturing knight; Hugh McCall, secretary; A. T. Hill, treasurer; T. J. Scroggin, trustee; F. W. Jolly, tyler. The retiring exalted ruler, C. S. Dunn,' was chosen as delegate to the Los Angeles convention of Elks, and C. D. Goodnough. named as alternate. ELGIN SELECTED. Sunday -School Workers Will Meet at Elgin Next Fall. As predicted in The Observer last night, Elgin was chosen as the next meeting place of the Union county Sunday school association at the close of the convention at Island City last evening. The election of officers oc cures at the fall meeting.
