COUHTY MEET IN APRIL POSSIBILITIES THAT SUCH AX AGREEMENT WILL DC REACH Only Sli Meu Will Have Kxpenv Paid to Wall Walla Students May Send the Other Half Poicn. - " . m" It is very likely that the Union coun ty track and field meet will be held held f t V"!?n late In April. The meet had been set or May S. but that date would conflict with the Walla Walla meet and a later date would not be convenient for the eastern Oregon meet at. Pendleton. When Mr. Conk Itn of Cove, was In La Grande last night, plans for holding the Union meet In April were started, and it Is thought such will eventually be decld ed upon. April 24 Is the most satis factory date. Six to Walla Walla. A new turn of events has rather as tonished the members of the track team -when it was announced by let ter to the managers of the local team that the Walla Walla management would only take six men. There are nearly twice that number In the squad who have splendid chances to win, and some solution will be worked out that will mean sufficient finances to take at least 10 men to the Garden City meet Didn't M1m a Day In 50 Y(-rs. Boston, Mass., March 23. Boston Is very proud of one citizen who has JuBt retired from active service. ' His name Is Joseph Merritt Alexander, and he has been an engineer on the Boston & AlbanI for 50 years. During the half century f his service he never received a reprimand nor a bluck mark; no error was ever recorded against him, and no human lives were ever lost while he guided the fast en gines over the miles of track. He never mslsed a day during his . 50 years of service, never, was late, and for the last 25 years he rose every day at 3 a. m., and was beside his engine shortly after, ready for duty at 4:30. The miles he covered would stretch to the moon at least 10 times, and 80 or 90 times around the globe. 4 OUR PRIDE. 4 4 We mortals, men and women, 4 4 devour many a disappointment 4 4 between .breakfast and dinner 4 time; keep back the tears and 4 4 look pale abotff fhe lips, and in 4 4 answer to Inquiries, say: "Oh, 4 4 nothing!"
