Selected. ' - ( Tho Alaska-Vttkon-Paciflc exposi tion will stimulate nn Immense amount cf advertising, relative to the Pacific northwest. Many of the eastern rail roads are Issuing thousands of reams cf descriptive literature, picturing the conditions of tho west from every phase. This, In addition to v. hut scores of counties and localities are doing, will soon wipe out the glamor, Ignor ance and superstition that has hover ed over the Pacific coast In the past, nd the commercial Interests and peo ple generally will noon give us the recognition that we deserve. No one Who hns ever studied the conditions of the Atlantic const with tV Piicirie, falls to recognize the fact that the natural and climatic relation ore such that the Pacific const can and in time will sustain a greater population than the Atlantic. Much has been said and written- re gardlng the power of Speaker Can ron. We predict that before congress j Jike i ...e"lf..... gets through with tne prescm till, that the people will change their minds and begin to see the necessity of power, when rightly conducted. The entire business world In many will remain Inactive until the iy settled one way or the lines tariff ' other. The menace of uncertain schedules Is more disastrous than whether the schedule Is high or low. The stand patters and obstructionists would be willing to forestall final action for months and months to secure their special Interests and unless the speak er hns authority to over-ride such In fluences ut the proper time; Justice Jibs been anil doubtless will he over ridden In the mime of "liberty." ... i ' This Is the age U th Hire of electric roo The Willamette Valley Is linking great development by the extension of such roads. The observer has been of the opinion for several year that It would be pns.-lblo to cn-operate with Walla Walla and secure an el.-clrlc r"iid from La Orande along the foothills to Sum mervllle. thence across the mountains to Milton or Weston. This would de velop our own valley, practl. ally ex tending Frulldale all the way t S un mervtlle, would make a summer report Of Bingham Springs, tap a large wood and lumber rtlstrM and would Imptove Grande Ilonde and Walla Wnlla xal- levs. The ...vei-Rl Interests r su n .'thai ' weiif m'ty : tieHi Ve" VhoiifcH' ' ti couragement could be given capital that would accomplish the suggestion. If perfected, as it Undoubtedly will be. a. the Initial in vestment Is small, not exceeding 12 5 per acre, will change the entire map of Jackson county, and ledford will become a city of 16,000 within the next decade. Water Is the factor of permanent growth anywhere. .. - - It begins to look very much as If the Citizens were Justified In recalling Mayor Harper of l.o Angt'lo. Evi dence so far presented Indicates that the southern' city of California Is (craft ridden and rotten to the core. , , , . , , T COUNCIL AWAITS DEFINITE HKCIKIOX OK ATTORNEY.
