Congress at present Is the greatest menace to business that exists. Jt Is right and proper, that a revision should be made but until It Is, every large enterprise-will be carried along on most conservative lines. Manufacturers will riot carry only minimum stocks, whole ers the same, and retail dealers likewise will take no chances on hav ing th-lr values reduced. Just as on . as the tariff bill I passed, there will be a great revival In commercial cir cles. . In view of the strenuous campaign that has been put forth by those In terested locally, and the friendliness to Grande Rond valley by David Ec cles. there should be quite an acreage of beets put in by those farmers whose land is adapted to beet culture and help hold this factory here. There ought not to bo any trouble, to secure 1000 acres and If this was forthcom ing and the Irrigation project put through next year, or any year here after, we would never hear anything about moving lite' sugar factory. The wets won a signal victory In the California" legislature when tho pro posed loc; option law was defeated In the smote, two to pne Thl-; vns to be expected in that state, notwith standing the fa t that over 200 towns have banished the saloon. California, Is a (treat wlr.e producing state and lives largely from the money spent an nually by tourists. The rommerrlal condition are tuih that U may b several years before California in listed in the prohibition column. .' Los Angeles is soon to make- the first attempt at wireless telephony, with the expectation of maintaining the system. With wireless telegraphy, wireless telephoning, with the trans mission of power through ' the air, which has been demonstrated to be effective by the running of a boat sev eral miles, the demand for copper wire will not be so great as at present. One of the best leaflets that the Commercial . club could distribute among the homeseekera who are pass ing through out city dally, would be market report on the prices of the products of this valley. Union coun ty, with her large and extensive diver sified Interests, and the prevailing prices for what we sell, would certain ly attract the attention of the shrewd Investor In farm lands. The legislature adjourned lost night. It was called together for a specific purpose and after accomplishing it, adjourned. ' , ' American capital has Just opened a large department store in London.
