Weston people have no intention of complying j with the order of the board of regents that all funds subscribed for the school be, turned over to the state treasury. Instead the fund that has been raised will be expended at the direction of an executive committee and Ira M. Kemp, who has been named as trustee for the fund. The view taken by Weston people Is that the Normal school regents vir tually ceased to exist some time ago. Hut prior to disbanding the regents notified the different Normal schools that If they continued in operation they would have to do so upon local responsibility. After having made such an announcement as this the action of the board in asking that locally raised money be turned over to the slate Is regarded as highly inconsist ent. Furthermore, it is believed that the regents want, to secure control nf the subscription money partly feir the pur pose of using It to pay off a back In debtedness. When the Normal schools were dropped by the Mate through the failure of the legislature to provide funds for maintenance, considerable money was due teachers and others. This has never been paid nor has the state made any provision for paying the claims. That the money which has been sub scribed for the Weston s liool must lie need for defraying the expenses of the school from now until June is the de- cision of the committee in charge. Plils committee will not turn the money oer to the state treasurer and has so notified the regents. At recent meetings the Weston and Athena lodges of the Farmers' co operative union passed resolutions calling upon the legislature to provide t.xr- jtir.rt.-rt . ..f fVt.i U'..wl,tn ' school until the close of the present year.
