This proposed road will traverse the rich Columbia valley, where at pres ent there are no railway facilities. It will secure Its power from the Priest Rapids, where will be generated more than enough electricity to operate the entire line. Every building will be finished, ev.-ry seasonable exhibit will be In place, every road will be paved, every path laid out, every garden will be radiant with flowers. If the vinitor comes on the last day. or in August, or on the opening day. be or she will find things the same. The promise of the officials of the exposition to break all previous records snd thus establish a precedent will be realized. Seattle men fell that they must live tip to the reputation of the rlty as a place that does big things and they are actl n-gith characteris tic promptness, energy and enterprise. A month ago the gates of the expo sition were closed to free adml.ision. The day was celebrated by a vast meet ing of the stockholders held on thel steps of the huge manufacturers build ing. The director general presented figures showing that . the exposition was more than 70 per cent complete. eight months remains for the finish ing touches. Three of the great permanent build ings which will be turned over to the University of Washington at the end of the fair are finished. A fourth will be completed by January 1. The two main exhibit palaces, the Manu factures and Agriculture buildings have been finished for several months. The Mining palace and the Fisheri? building are ready, the hospital and the fire station have been In use for months. The power plant is ready to start up. Oregon finished her pala tial building In September; California will have her immense buildings com pleted by January 1. The Washington State building, which, will be perma nent. Is going up rapidly.
