1909. the gates of the Alsska-Tukon-Pacific
exposition at Seattle will open.
Every building will be finished, ev.-ry
seasonable exhibit will be In place,
every road will be paved, every path
laid out, every garden will be radiant
with flowers. If the vinitor comes on
the last day. or in August, or on the
opening day. be or she will find things
the same. The promise of the officials
of the exposition to break all previous
records snd thus establish a precedent
will be realized. Seattle men fell that
they must live tip to the reputation of
the rlty as a place that does big things
and they are actl n-gith characteris
tic promptness, energy and enterprise.
A month ago the gates of the expo
sition were closed to free adml.ision.
The day was celebrated by a vast meet
ing of the stockholders held on thel
steps of the huge manufacturers build
ing. The director general presented
figures showing that . the exposition
was more than 70 per cent complete.
