Vigorous complaints are being made against toy balloons at this' time of the year because they are dangerous from a fire starting standpoint. Sev eral grain fires have already been caused by, balloons, though they were always found, fortunately. In time to prevent serious conflagrations. Today the attention of the mayor and chief of police was called to the practice of sending up toy balloons, and Mr. Murphy asas that tne sport be given up by the boys. Though comparatively little harvesting has yet been done, the yields so far heard from are ahead of what was expected a short time ago, and In some Instances the cropsitre normal. Unllke'ordlnary seasons threshing commenced first In the "northwest" country this year and a number of combines Were running this week. 'At the Wv P. Temple place on Despaln gulch a yield of 25 bushels per acre Is reported and the grain makes No. 1 wheat, weighing 59 pounds per bushel. Pendleton E. O. New Koatl In Panhandle. There Is a movement on foot, backed by good, substantial men, for the construction of a wagon road to I. H. Latham's ferry In Idaho. The construction of this road to the ferry would be a great yidvantngo to this section of the country. There are a great number of families across the river In Idaho, who have to go 20 or 80 miles to trade at Cambridge, Idaho, who would come to Richland if this road was constructed.
