La Grande Is to have a market day and horse show combined on April IS, according to advance notices from Max Zimmerman, the man who Is inaugur ating the system In eastern Oregon. Ho is going to pull off a similar event In Baker City In a few days. Market day is firmly planted In Union county, and with the added test which market day will give, there should be a rousing attendance In La Grande on April H. Mr. Zimmerman announces In a letter from Baker, X ilty, where lie Is now working, that rain or shine will have no power to change the date. R. N. The repairs heretofore have been of a temporary nature, but the gravel train, steam shovel and a large crew will leave for the district tfimnrrnur n malr IhlnM permanent The washouts and land slides destroyed several miles of track at Intervals and It will require some time to get the roadbed In shape again where It can be called first class. At the meeting of the delegates of the board of control of the Epworth League of the La Grande district of the Idaho conference held here last r.lght, Payette was chosen as the p'ace of holding the next convention, which will be June 18, 19, 20 and 21. In all It Is expected that there 'will bo 100 delegates present. ,The committee on progrem was Herman Clark, who Is president of the league and Miss Ora Q. The round house crew is highly pleased with the machine. ODD FELLOWS MEET AT SALEM. Grand Lodge Will Be IleW In the Cap ital on Slay 19 and 20. Salem, March 81. There will be something dping in old Salem on Mai ls to 21, for. on those dates the an nual meeting of four bodies of Odd Fellows will be held here. The four bodies are the Grand Lodge, Independent Order of Odd i Fellows, the Encampment, - 1. , . ' . ,. . the Ke- bekahs. and the Kremlin Bakin Mus covites. Already a committee of entertain ment of the local bodies is preparing for the reception of the visiting hosts of Three-linkers. It is planned to show them the time of their lives, and there Is no doubt but that they will be royally entertained. This Is not the first time that the local Odd Fellows have entertained the grand lodge. The annual meet ing of the order was held in the Capi tal City In 1898, and the visitors at that meetlnr went swny with praise for the way they were treated. The Muscovites are a social adjunct, to which only Odd Fellows are eligible as members.. The order bears about the same relation to Odd Fellowdom as the Shrlners bear to Masonry. There Is only one organization of Its kind in the state of Oregon, and that I Is at Portland. Willamette 'Encampment No. z ul act as hosts of the grand lodge of the Encampment. W. H.
