SMITH CREAMERY BUILDING i t r t t Evelyn did not hold so well .under the fir of the question today assfjc did formerly. Her voice was not, so. strong She related the story of the pie dinner at Stregit where herself, Thaw and a third man wsr present ' The matter caused a small tcandall at the time,, but was surpressed from the newspaper. ,,In reply to a question if Harry Thaw aver spoke of the dinner party in connection with White, who.it is supposed the third man wit tTwalan ranliari! s i ,XHrry referred to the subject rre quantiy. He Invariably aid to m that the only place jfqr Whit, was .the penitan- tiary H. informed me that he knew , of girls of good familie who had suffered at the hands of White. The worst of all wa when he tired of t -.em, he cast them off. They would then drift, lower and lower until they were women of the street When he talked to me of White, , ho al way cried, so I tried to keep his mind off the subject" --. ... - Attorney Delmat then read a paper prepared by Thaw and shown to Evelyn in March 1906, which he bad planned to send to the Anthony Comstock , society, which has for its purpose, the suppression of th crime.' , , i , The paper as read set forth illicit and obscene matter that had .been found in Whit' social studio. It referred aiso to a place that had been removed to No. ,22 West 4th Street, which wa kept for the purpose of debauching young American girl by rich criminal. , Then came' the story of the "Pie-girl" by which the defense . expect . to show ome of 'he debased mental condition and cold bloodedness of White. WHAT PIE-GIRL MEANT Evelyn related the incident of the pie girl supper and what it meant Sh said "I was in a theatre one night, d-essing, when White came to me and told in a proud manner ot the 'best staunt he ever did.' He continued to tell m that this particular girl was a pretty young thing, being only fifteen. White had a monster pie made, and placed within the pie the girl and some live fowl. At the right time the pie wa brot out The cover wa broken and out flaw the fowl, flapping their wing. Then the girl stood up, dressed in a piece of guaze. White admitted to me that ha nearly got into trouble over it but managed to sup press the newspapers. I .old him that he had ruined the yo-ing girl. He only laughed at me." The witness then whispered the names of other girls who had been ruined by White but Jerome was the only one who heard who they were. Treating Wrong Disease.
