The boycott was origin ally started when the United States gov ernment refused to modify the Exclusion Act. The efforts which were made in Shangahi, Pelt in and other leading cities to induce the Chinese newspapers to re ject advertisements of American manu factures has been successful and non e are now appearing. It is stated that Germany and England are at present pro fiting to a considerable extent by the boy cott of American goods.
