Urdauf thnr. k, fir orr line Those who have g.ven anything more than causal attention at the prcceeding of the present term of c:unty court can not but be depressed with the necessi ty of a change in our present law where by trivial cases should be a'sposed of J 10 the st'jdjf of what are the best books which will produce such men. It is a curious thing that while we all know we must carefully train plants and anima's, that we can't even neglect machines without their becoming worth less, we seem to think the way tc bring up children is, "to let them grow spon taneously," as if mere food, clothing, shelter and good surroundings were suffi cient and that the line upon line, line upon line, precept upon precept, prcept upon precpt, here a little and there a little," were no longer needed. There is dishonesty in business and politics today. Why not when we call boys robbing apple-otchards a joke? Lying is a matter of course in business Why shouldn't it be common when parents lie to their ehi'dren threatening punish ment they never give, and making other rash statements. The librarian's part in helping to make good men and women out of the ooys and girls of today is in personal influence and in constantly raising the standard of j books he puts on ths shelves in the children's room. j They should never be satisfied with books that are no particular "harm" The ! books must be cf some particular good. More time and thought should be given ! AT VanBuren's in justice courts, thus relieving the 1 county of heavy expenses. In two in stances the defendants were charged with stealing old second hand tools and clothing, in each instance the value would not exceed three dollars. It would seem that any justice of the peace could not have gore wrong to any con siderable extent if he had lave had power to properly handle s-ch cases without taking up the time of a circuit court. for children, and more time to reading books to determine w-vch are the best suited. This argument that the chief aim of children's iibrares sh:uid be the building of character in children and not mere amusement or mere education of the intellect appears to be gaining adherents.
