The play is one of Elmer Walters most successful and popular dramas, and has tint season been re-written, much new and pleasing matter having been added Mr. Walters and hi plays are old friends in La Grande and theatre goers recognize them as among his best of popular priced attractions. In Pete Peterson he has succeeded in satisfying the public demand fur something that does away with the ui.ua! melo dramatic style and even the most fastidou theatre goers will tad nothing objectionable. ,.' A good clear comedy abounding catchy songs, sparkling dialogues and funny situations is the offering and judging from the lively demand for seats it will be well to secure them early. Friday Oct 6. . . ; . THE ROYAL CHEF -"The Royal Chef is down for a visit to La Grand and will appear at Steward opera house on Monday, Oct. 8. The music of the play is not only extremely catchy, but has scored number for num ber with any ever written for a singli production, in many a day. The scenic effects are described as great and the company with Harry Hermsen in the lead ing role, unusually capable. The locale of the "Royal Cher' is the mythical "Isle of Oolong," over which the "Rajah" rules in exalted dignity; finding his Chef has attempted to poison him, he has the ras cal beheaded and orders "Lord Mi to," his Anson 25.20 State of Oregon ) County of Union ss City of La Grande ) I, I. The prim minister fears it is a hopeless task, but just as his time is about up he is saved by the unexpected appearance of "Heinrich Lemphauser" of Chicago, who i at one promoted to the position of "Royal Chef." The new chef turns out to be a joke-smith and around him revolves all the incidents that show clever dramatic construction. The opera is staged in fine style both in costumes and every accessory required to give it proper setting, while the specialists chorus, dancers and supernumeraries meet every requirement, and in point of numbers exceeds any that is usually re quired in musical comedy.
