Butcher, one of the few stand-pat democratic war horses of Ore gon, left last night on No. 2 for New York for the purpose of meeting William Jen nings Bryan, the local nominee of the democratic party for president two years hence, who is returning from a tour around the world. Colonel Butcher is just as enthusiastic today as he was in 1896 on the money question, and believes that Bry an will stand pat on the question of the free coinage of silver. Some other demo crats are not so sure that Bryan ought to say anything about free silver. Colonel Butcher siys that the entire question has been misrepresented and thoroughly mis understood. The Colonel is a personal friend of Bryan's and will meet at his home in Lincoln, Neb. after the New York demon stration. Baker City Democrat.
