To make matter! worse he not only re mains in Baker county, but walks unWr rified through the streets of Durkee, and since the memorable night when he was sought out by the committee and warned to leave, he has one by one sought out members of the peaceful band, and given them individually, many good, round "cussings." 'i Yesterday at Durkee he tried that plan on Sid Storey. Storey was a member of the committee and he wouldn't listen to abuse from the marked man. He started ir. to thrash him. But the vigilante missed his first blow and- its force was so great that he fell forward upon hit face. It was "Curley's" cm to get busy and for fifteen minutes thre was a battle royal like that, say the onlookers, of ti old women. Then the olive branch and truce; the two fagged gladiators, dusty, bruised and bleeding; a few more curses and a warn ing to the bad man to leave Durkee Then peace. But Curley heeds not even the second warning. "They didn't run me into this country," he declares, "and as long as 1 havep't done anything they can't run me ou'.." Circuses in those days traveled over the country roads and one morning there was a big circus billed to pass in front of our house. Of course, we children were all up, bright and early to seethe elephants and wagons go by. Will was a good sized boy m those days and he planted his feet on the lower board on the front yard fence and hung his elbows over the top board, watching with his eyes, ears. mouth and feet. Jhe road ran very close to the fence, soon the big wagons' of the circus hove in sight. Will opened his eyes with delight and wiggled his toes wite content ment. But he was looking for elephants and so far not one had appeared. 1 "Pa," he called, as he turned his eyes from the road, ain't they no elefunts in this here circus?" sin "Just then one of the big wagons went by with an elephant pushing behind. The big beast stopped directly in front of Will and when he turned his eyes to the road again he saw a long, wiggly, leathery snout coming slowly toward him.
