JAIL BREAK AT ASOTIN A jail break here this morning resulted in the escape of three men held on the charge of robbing the Clarkston Aores three weeks ago. Burns, Brown and Stand were the only intimates of the county jail. All were peaceful when Sheriff Richards visited the corridors at 1 0 o'clock last night. It Is presumed the men made their geta way about 2 o'clock. They had evident ly been supplied with tools, as they filed off the bars which guarded the windows of the jail. A man who sleeps near the ferry land ing states that shortly after 2 o'clock last night he noticed three men on -the river bank. As one of the row boats is miss ing it is presumed that it was taken by the fugitives and that they made their way to Lewiston, and are either in hiding here or made their way furtl er down the river. ' Con siderable business has come before the board, but Judge Henry has taken hold of the reigns of county government like "One to the manner born," and business has been disposed of with "Neatness and dispatch." The citizens of Union county are in able hands and will receive the some careful and upright attention which the importance of the work demands. The present court is composed of men who by careful management have made an unqualified success of their personal affairs, and those who knaw then feel certain that they will carry the same policy int- the administration of the county business. KICKED BY A HEN, We have heard of men being kicked by horses, mules and cows, but seldom if ever does a newspaper have the oppor tunity to chronicle the event where a man is kicked by a hen. However, here is an instance. P. E. Colbern of this city has a refractory hen, and the other day when he went to take eggs from the nest, the hen actually rose up in wrath and kicked him on the hand. The hand became ser iously swollen and the prompt attention of a physciar. prevented a case of blood poison. Athena Press. THE COMFORT Of the ladies is well taken care of by us. We have succeeded in our efforts to J make our restaurant the best place for the ladies to have their meals, and have tastely arranged the different things to add attractiveness to the place, and make the surroundings pleasant ' COOD ADVICE If you pass along the business streets of a town, asserts a thrifty "booster.' and the business men aie disposed to sing the praises of their associates, you have struck a good town. It is a good town for business, for . homes a good town for schools churches, public improv ments and general municipal well being. If the merchants complain that the bank ers buy goods in Chicago, ir the doctors charge the lawyers with dishonesty, if the druggist claims the lumber dealer is a robber in short, if there exists a cold blooded, every-follow-for-himself attitude you have struck a town that, needs shak ing up. If you live in a good town, get in touch with the spirit cf reciprocity and the united-we-stand policy. SPECIAL SUNDAY DINNER Paul Rhor, the new propriter of the Horse Shoe Chop House, has arranged a Special bill of fare for his guests tomor row.
