AN INHERITED & MISFORTUNE -. has a hereditary right to a pure blood supply, which insure .li v body; but how many do we see who have inherited that .. misfortunes, Scrofula, and are struling under a legacy of UTering? IN NAVAL VOLUNTARY S (Scrlppe New Association) Washington, June 23 No one ha been able to find out just what will M the re sult of the sessions of the board of admi als who are meeting to eliminate 'officers' In the line of the navy, in order to furnish the statutory number of vacancies in the commissioned personel on July 1. In previous years the Bureau of Navigation announced from day to day the number of applications filed in various grades for retirement, with the result that it was easy to figure out just how many volun tary retirements there would be. This had the effect of discouraging senior officers fn m applying for retirement. This year a different policy has been adopted with the idea that every one who has any, even the remotest, intention o retiring voluntarily, may send in his appli cation. In this way it is expected there will be vacancies obtained in the grade of captain which will result in benefit by promotion all down the line. This is the reason for the reticence of the naval authorities in regard to prospective re tirements. It is evident, however, that there will be sufficient applications for re tirement to make unnecessary the selec tion of officers to go out of active service. SURE The Baker City Democrat accuses Herman Rothchild of being actively en gaged in soliciting support from representatives-elect for the speakership. This is a mistake. The speakership will come to Mr. Rothchild spontaneorsly. North Powder News.
