April 6, 1906. wasMr.CamchaH .R9th birthday, and he gave a party, inviting his old friends that were over 60. and under 20 years old. As bees fly home at night with loads of treasure, so it was fiat Vining at the Camnball farm. Hit frieids cane in with love and respect un til there were more than 100 and with the exception of a very few. all present were either born in this valley or had been here for more than thirty years. Mr. Campbell and his good wife, as sisted by Mrs. Fraker. Mre. Grout and others, made welcome all who came. The large home wae too small to entertain the company, but ample arrangements naa been made. The large barn has a fine upper floor and this was nicely ar ranged and lighted for the occasion and here was ampld room for all, and room to dance a half a dozen or more sets. The dance went merrily on, until 1 0:30 o clock, when Dick Peebler. the floor manamr. announced ladies choice for quadrille. The men and boys all tnen looked their prettiest and when the sets were formed it was seen that Mrs, Peeb ler had captured Tom Sherwood. Mrs. Wilkinson with Peter Kuhn. Mr. Fraker with Bud MeAlister. Mrs. Leslie with John Williamson. Mrs. Braden with John Peebler, Mrs. Cross with Jim McCall ard Mrs. Williamson with Ed Grout There was seme controversy that Mrs. W. and Mr. Grout were out of their class, but when the orchestra started uo with "Buf falo Ualls it comio Out Tonifltit to Danca by the Light of the Moon" the twenty year ow class stood attention, with jeal ous admiration to tee the perfect erace of the performers. While they danced in the barn, thoaa who did not dance were well entertained at the home. The friends Draaant diH not propose that Mr. and Mrs. Campbell should do all the nice thinas. so iust be fore supper all present were asked to come to the hall and the last to come was Hon. D. A. MeAlister with Mr. CamDbalL and Mr. J. T. Williamson led Mr. Camp bell to tne m ddle of the hal a id in a nea speecn, presented mm with a fine chair, a birthday present from his friends present Mr, Campbell thanked his friends w.th a neat speech. Supper was then served and like all other features of the evening's entertain ment, it was perfect, and the table was laden with all the good thins that tht good wife knows so well how to cook. At a late hour, or rather an earlv hour all congratulated and thanked Mr. and Mrs. Campbell for their kindness and went home feeling that it was good to be there. The Damen Kranz was deliahtfullv entertained last evening at the McCali home north of La Grande. " Tna oumtn were taken to the home of the hoitess in carry-alls and spent the evening very pleasantly. Delicious refreshmenta served. Those present were: Misses Gertrude Mitchell. Marcarat Kirk, Zada Haney, Alice McKinley, Mertie Aldrich, Ada Fowler. Emma Clark Gertrude Baiver, Allie SteDhens. Marit Clark, Retha Fowler, of Portland. Mesdames C. J. Scriber. C. S. Willi ami Messrs Williams, MacLennon. Smith Beiver, Massee, Nelson and Harrison. Whose Say-so Is Best?
