their youngest child which has been dan
gerously ill the past few weeks, is much

The first signs of spring are here. Yes
terday Eximena, the little daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, Stephen Cady, brought
home a buttercup which she had found on
her way to school, and today the school
children are wearing' pussy willows in
their buttotv.holes.
The Equal Suffrage Campaign com
mittee of La Grande is arranging to have
Miss Gail LaugMin of New York, one of
the greatest speakers in the campaign.
If successful, Miss Laughlin will appear
in this city about the middle of March.
Rev. Walker, pastor of the M. E. church
of Union, passed through the city this
morning enroute to Elgin, where he goes
to attend the mid-winter sub-district con
vention of the La Grande district of the
M. E. Church, which is in session there
this week. .
E. T. . Wade returned this morning
from La Grande, where he has been for
several days on business. He is greatly
impressed with Grande Ronde valley and
says the prospects for the electric belt
line around the valley are very good.

sary will be held in the high school audi
torium Friday afternoon at one thirty.

CIRCUIT COURT
The court has been occupied since yes
terday on the damage cise against the
O. R. & N. Co., and as We go to press
the attorneys are presenting their argu
ments. The next case will be Dr. G. W.
Biggers vs Mrs.' Laurie McC'ure.
LARGE PURCHASE
A. Gust, of the Oregon Produce Com
pany of this city, has jus', returned from
Washington, where he punhasad a lasge
body of grain land, and also 160 acres of
choice fruit land near Prosser, which he
will plant out in sweet potatoes and forty
acres in walnuts. In the aggregate he
invested $40,000.

On next Friday evening the Junior
League of the M. E. church will give a
social at the church to which all are in
