The Baker City High School basket ball team arrived in La Grande on No. 5 last night and were greeted . with the above yell to which the Baker team responded: Osky Wow, Wow, Wisky Wee, Wee, Oly, Mucki I, Sockl I,. Baker I. Wow, The game which will be played in the Commercial Club this evening promises to be the most closely contested game ever witnessed in La G randa. Both teams have been practicing faithfully and, are in fine trim for the battle. The local fans will have reason to be proud of the home team this evening as they have promised to "Play Ball." About twenty of the High School mem bers accompanied the Baker team and are being entertained at the Hotel Foley by the La Grande team. Immediately after the game this evening, the members of the two teams and visitors will be tendered a reception at the home of Miss Sulla Bloch. The attention of the circuit court has been occupied today with the case of Grant versus Harold. This is a case wherein Wm Grant seeks to recover commission or the sale of the the Harold farm. Joe Wright of Sparta will be a candi date for senator in Baker county. When the Panhandle was a part of Union county Mr. Wright was a factor in politics in this county and - while representing the county was made speaker of the House, The young people of the Methodist church invjte those who do not attend any other young peoples' meeting to spend an hour at the Epworth League meeting to morrow evening. The subject is "Per sonal Preparation." There will be good singing. The meeting will open exactly at 6:50 with prayer. AN UP TO DAT! ' TlTSorenson, who has been confined to his home the past month on account of a badlv strained muscle in the calf of his left leg, has so far recovered as to be able to be out upon the streets yesterday. Mr. Sorenson was injured while switching on thi Elgin train at Elgin, and though the injury was considered not serious then i . developed into such a serious condition fiat he has been compelled to lay off for several weeks. McCully, the Joseph busi ness man was in this city he informed a Recorder reporter that he had secured a contract from the O. R. & N. Co. for the manufacture of 60,000 ties. The ties will be delivered some where in the Wal lowa canyon. Mr. McCully is yet unde cided as to where they will be manu factured. Elgin Recorder. .
