Hain, white touching off some of the fucwoins at the celebration last Monday night, had his face very severely burned by the explosion of a bomb. Farrls, while attending the cele bratiou at St. Helens, received word that his saw mill at Rainier, hnd been totally destroyed by fire, and with it the mill of the Hitrcka Planing Mill Company. Mr. Farris' mill wasuewand modern and the insurance carried was very small in pro portion to the loss. Some time ago Mr. I'urris' store wns destroyed by fire. Only the fact that Rainier has a splendid water system saved the entire business portion of the town from destruction. Another great improvement aoon to be made in the appearance of our city is the construction of six hundred feet of con crete sidewalk on the west aide of Columbia street between Cowliti and St. Ileleus street, nearly all the property owners having aggreed thereon. It still not be long before St. Helens will be known as the city of beautiful homes, handsome business block and good sidewalks, Then, too, iu a very short time, we will have a splendid electric lighting sytdeui, and, in another year, as good a water system as any city in the State, with complete Cre protection. The editor of the Mist attended a very pleasant celebration at Deer Island last Saturday. It was under the management Of the United Artisan and was fairly well atteuded. There wa a free-for-all dinner, a baseball game and other sports and iu the evening a dance at the Orange hall. Alter the dinner hour we paid visit to the farm of Mr. Kdward, about four mile out of town and probably three hundred feet above the river level, and were tuprlscd to find crop doing so well on the hill laud.
