M.S. Hain, white touching off some
of the fucwoins at the celebration last
Monday night, had his face very severely
burned by the explosion of a bomb. The

gone out, he started to relight it, when
it exploded in his face, Ailing it with
powder, but, fortunately, not iujuriug

to the bouse for some time.
At n dance following the celebration
held last Monday at Mist nearly cveyone

fatalities had occurred. Chicken, kept

Another great improvement aoon to be
made in the appearance of our city is the
construction of six hundred feet of con
crete sidewalk on the west aide of
Columbia street between Cowliti and
St. Ileleus street, nearly all the property
owners having aggreed thereon. It still
not be long before St. Helens will be
known as the city of beautiful homes,
handsome business block and good
sidewalks, Then, too, iu a very short
time, we will have a splendid electric
lighting sytdeui, and, in another year,
as good a water system as any city in the
State, with complete Cre protection.
Good streets we now have, and it cost
very little to keep theui In repair. There
is no town In Western Oregon' whose ,
prospect are better then St. Helens.
