Inquiries hare come from all over the State relative to the membership of thieorgsntsatlon, the interest probably being awakened ly the recent house wurmlna held in the new eight story steel home ot the Club. There ia a healthy and hearty rivalry between the members of the Portland Commercial Club in furnishing flower for its decoration. Kach day a different member is the donor, and (lower are promised more than ten days in advance. The ladies, too, have..becotun enthusi astic and have added much to the effect through their taste In floral arrange ment. 1908 will register the greatest crop of berries and cherries that Oregon has ever produced. Quality ia magniSceut, quantity almost unlimited, and while humanity is enjoying this fruit the maturing hay crop Insuies a big increase in the dairy output, which has been greatly benefitted by as good spring pastures aa were ever known in thla sec tion. Residents of the Northwest should take pains to see that their Eastern country friends are made familiar wi'h the unequalled conditions which make dairying so profitable here. The Sixth National Conclave of the I'hi Delta Kappa will meet in Portland from the 6th to the 11th of July, and the local chapter is arranging an elabor ate series of festivities. English Walnuts English walnuts have become the prevailing fad in the line of tree plant ing in many parts of the Willamette val ley, where the prune erase held sway 15 to 20 years ago, and many prune trees are being uprooted to make room for those producing the toothsome nut, saya the Portland Telegram. The Oregon Walnut company, of this city, hes pur chased th 15-) acre tract known aa the Roberts Donation Land Claim, within two miles of North Yamhill in Yamhill county, paying $.11,000 (or it, and has contracted with Thomas Price, of Don dee, in Yamhill county, who agrees to set out the requisite nnmber of walnut trees the eusuing fall. The land baa been In a high state of cultivation for a number of years, and iaaaid to be well adapted to the culture of the nut, the growing of which has become profitable in that part of the valley. The walnut tree begin to bear the fourth year, and is supposed to become profitable the sixth, although it is gen erally understood that the grower must wait 10 to 12 yeara for the best return. After the 10th year the business ia said to pay better than any other agricultural enterprise in the state. Thatr-es to be set out on the tract in question sre to be tbeee yeara old, and so are to begin to pay for the trouble and expense with in three or four years of the time of planting.
