HOW WILL YOU VOTE? How do you intend to vote in Novem ber? Two great national parties will appeal lor your support and to make year vote effective you most give your the other. What ;,!.,.-...;.,., mill iniliieiiee vou? Now Is the time to think of these matter and make your decision wisely. U yon area first voter and have no strong p;iriy tie yon are in a jKisitioii to cast a vote abao- lutety without prejudice, basing your action upon what yon lieheve to he for the best good of vour country and your self. Yoo will hear the thnnder of the campaign, see the flash and glare of the proeesiou and listen to the plausible oratory of the spellbinder as he tell you of the great resntts that will be achieved for the common jieople by the election of his candidate. Hut the torchlight is uncertain and flickering and neither noise nor orctory should be permitted to obscure the onlv light by which men cor rectly read the past ami prophesy the future the light of experience. History repeat. itself. That which a party hat been in the p.st, within cer tain limitation!!, it will be in the future. Administrative faults may lie cured, a Btrong man may stamp out corruption ; but time has no record of the evolution of a party so great and complete a. to separate it from its basic, principles. Politic, "the science of itovernmeiit," is a matter in which all are vitally inte rented. It touches the pocket book and affect the personal welfare of every citizen. The questions of to-day are those of economics. It is tin pocket nerve to which the appeal is to be made, though considerations of personal Wel fare by no means exclude giving full scop to the altruistl sentiment of right and justice upon which all good govern ment is baed. They who tell you there is no great difference tret ween the two parties either decieve.'themselves or seek to deceive others. The issues are the same to-day that they haveleen for the iwst twenty years. The Republican party standi lor the protective theory and the Democracy for what is kiiown'as'a tariff for revenue only, and, as the Republican party has pledged itself to ca!lr a epecial session immediately alter the next inauguration to revise the tariff, the gn at and over shadowing issue in thin campaign and the great central question that should decide your vote is whether you wish the Republican or the Democratic party to have charge of this revision. There are tome beautiful theories upon the subject of free trade and a tariff for revenue means asnear an ap proach to free trade as possible; but the actual application of the free trade theory, so far as it lias ever been em bodiei in my Democratic measure, has always proved disastrous to the bent in terest, of the country. The only time that great and prolonged disaster fell upon the industries of the l.'nited Htates since the days of the civil war Was when the Democratic Congress, under presi dent Cleveland, enacted the famous Wilson tariff measure. Worse disaster would have befallen us had Mr, Cleve land been in harmony with his party on financial measures. lie H'o'jd us a rock between the Nation and the money fal lacies of Mr. liryan, a id for this the country owes him a Iribuie of gratitude. To ry that the Democratic party hat profited by experience and may now be trusted to avoid former errors is a mere en r mice without a basis of fact. What ever theris of good in (he principles advocated by Mr, Bryan is more likely to 1 enacted into law by a Republican Prtsident, backtd by a Kepublicau Con- i i ... i ii, venous male' nresfiiled. ill ist'cut pinspei lly of U'1' ...... ,rv .iff.ii.l. .1 the onnorluuity for acllUh men to cttei'l combination of cup ital known as titiK just ivsthecivtl war gave opportunity for like combina tion of these Who fatten! nt tin- "V peine of p.ilri'ilinu.
