In uioat instances the board of road viewers are non-resideula of a section desiring a new road or road changes, and are not governed by their feelings ia the matter. It there is any one improvement tbat jdeaervee the earnest atleutiou of the jwople of St. Helens, it is a wagou road una better grade to Filtsbuig m ine Upper ehalem. When that road waa tirrt laid out, the surveyor made bills wbera none naturally exicted. special ly is this the condition uu this aide ot Uie luotli'tain. While the engineers did not materially build hills ami steep jfradts Uie Ijne ol Uie road w as blaxed over sleep aaceuta and grades w lieu they could have been avoided. A lew changes have been made in the vicinity ot the A-ojer piace with Uie result tbat some sleep gradea are now avoided. How ever, there ia room fur .till further im provement in this Hue, and parlies who have niade a careiul ex-miuatiuu of lite contour of the touutry confidently as aart that a roadway cu be made all the way to the summit of Uie mountain on six per cent tcrado. There also is rouui lor improvement on the other side ef the mountain. It is important llitl Ibis road should be improved on an eay graue, as much of the Ireigh: aud Unfile l the Upper Nehalem la going out to Forest Oruve aud other VSaehiuglon county points. Tins condition exists, because there is a much better road in that direction. Clalekauie w ill soon have a good road into the elia!elii, and tbe people of that section also deserve a good road to fct. Helena. "For months Tux Miar bas urged the importance of a board of trade or kin dred organization at St. Helena. Clats kaiiie bas a push clup and Rainier has a board of trade ready to begin active work. While a board of trade or pu.li club is expected to work primarily for tbe benefit of its own town, such organ isations are in a position to materially aid in matters of importance to the en tire county. There are many things in which the concerted action of tbe vari pos boards of trade, might result to the universal benefit of the people of the entire county, Tjnleiis St. Helens has inch an organisation the is placed at a iaadvantage in the march of progress. Thi Mist does not advocate the building np of one section of the county over the pther, yVhatever adds to the wealth of anj part pf the community is a benefit fo the entire county and state. .New epterprites and increased value of prop erty, lessens the burden of taxation and give, an ipeenUve to like improvement in other neighborhood cooimuinues.
