The officers have their cer tificates of office, but are ttill no more than honorary mem berg iq the society for the depletion of the county treas ury. Thb slanders of drsreputable persons re often heard more than they are heeded. The thing to do whjn mis represented and maligned by the uu crapulous rabble of which this world abounds it to treat the matter with anient contempt. The parties who do the talking have no reputation alttake and therefore nothing to lose, besides uch persons soon find their proper level in the community in which di vine providence permit them to exist and their utterance ds not command the attention of the better element of aociety. The words of the scandal monger, it it true, are annoying to some for a time, but the inevitable always Happens, when their perfidy reacts upon their own heads. With duty on wool and lumber the Pacific Coast would today be en joying prosperity. But so long at these two Industrie are crippled, or rather killed by the present tariff law, prosperity need not be expected. uow is it, sheepmen, with wool 0 cts. per pound instead of from 12 to 20 cents? Uow it it lumbermen, with lumber $6 instead of $12 per thousand? And back of this come the other In dustrie of Oregon and Washington which are affected by the above prices on our principle product. Cord wood for instance $1.75 instead of $2.25 and $2.50 per cord, and the cutting of the same, bo cents instead of fcv cent and f L Do you want a continuation of these reduction in your laborf If so rote the Bryan ticket.
